All About Petpets

A petpet is in short a small animal that you give to your pet so it won't feel lonely when you are away.


There are a few hundred petpets in Neopia so you have rather a vast choice. You can buy them from Neopian shops or user shops or you can also win them as prizes in some games.

A petpet is rather useful to your pet. Not only it can grant you some avatars by having them attached (usually for a period of time) but, if the petpet's level is high enough it can actually help your pet in the battledome. How do you increase your petpet level will you ask? Either by enlisting it into Petpet Battles (each ten points is a level) or taking your petpet to visit the Turmaculus (but that is quite a risky matter as if the Turmaculus is in a bad mood it can actually eat your little petpet (but at least you'll get an avatar out of it)).

There is another kind of reward you may get if you have a petpet attached. Neopia has a Petpet Protection League, which, in order to ensure petpets are kindly treated instead of tossed around, chooses a petpet "breed" every week, giving all owners of pets that have that exact petpet attached (breed and color) 10 NP for each day the petpet was attached (if you had it for 10 days that's 100 NP and so on). If you're not happy with the color of your petpet or if you want to make it more interesting, you can either paint it a different color (you'll need a petpet paint brush in order to do that) or take it to a visit to the Petpet Lab Ray (but once again be aware that the Lab Ray can turn your petpet to a pile of soot).

Last but not least, if you want your petpet to have a companion of its own you can give it a petpetpet.
